Prophecy of Days Book One The Daykeeper Grimoire Christy Raedeke Books
This review of Prophecy of Days may just be one of the hardest reviews I've ever had to write. For me there are many different parts to what makes a book great: the prose, the plot, the characters, the research, the believability and the voice, among a few others I probably can't think of now. Unfortunately, some of those parts mean more than others, so even if a book is amazing in many parts, but fails in others it can bring the enjoyability of the book down. The idea, research and plot of this book were extrodinairy. It was just as complicated and well thought out as The DaVinci Code going deep into the Mayan Calender and Secret Societies that resonated with me. But... I hate to say this because I really did enjoy this book, the prose and actual writing of this book feel rather subpar. There are a lot of "telling not showing" and the writing finds itself being very simplistic in a way that is less stylistic, but more like the author was just trying hard to get from point a to point b instead of having the characters be characters.
It could be that it is because this is not a character orientated book at all and it ends up being a matter of preference, but I really felt like the prose could have benefited from a bit more drive and believability from the characters, Caity especially had a robotic feeling to her, as if she was just going through the motions that a teenaged girl should instead of feeling any passion or ideas about it all.
The thing is, normally with books with this quality of writing, I put them down and I don't finish them, but the idea of this book is amazing and I loved the mystery of it all. I really enjoyed learning about the mystery of the Mayan Calender, so much I myself am going to start looking up to see what day each day is (if people have updated it past 2012 that is) as it goes along with my love of Astrology.
I also really love the idea of kids uniting all across the world.

Okay, this book is good, but more than likely many would not consider it written well, so this is up to you guys if you want to pick this book up or not. If you can let writing that may not be up to the par of others by, then I highly recommend this book, because it is really interesting and I did enjoy it quite a bit.

Prophecy of Days Book One The Daykeeper Grimoire Christy Raedeke Books Reviews
I have a lot of nieces so I keep my eyes open for great young adult fiction. I like to buy books for them that are both fun and inspirational. Prophecy of Days - Book One The Daykeeper's Grimoire intrigued me because it combines a girl adventure story with a bigger message of making a difference in the world (I'll say no more - don't want to give away the plot but it is very creative and something our tech savvy teens will relate to.)
The dialogue in the book sparkles and at times sparks fly with the boy love interest (but the story is definitely PG not R.) The fabulous descriptive language transports the reader to a Scottish castle in a real but fantastical way. It is so much fun to read. But the most important part is when Caity, because of her maturing confidence, decides to follow her own path, in spite of her fears and misgivings.
Of course, who can resist a tale that includes a monkey companion? Am anxiously waiting for the movie version too!
I was searching through [...] one day and first saw the cover of Prophecy of Days and new I had to read it. I mean, what is there not to love? My three favorite colors are mixed in green, gray, and blue. Beautiful! The title though, really caught my attention. So mysterious, and haunting and perfect! A three-word way to explain the entire book.
One of the best things that I loved about this book was the facts. Being a history freak, especially an ancient history freak, Prophecy of Days was like a fun, interesting, intriguing, and juicy textbook. No, no, it's not the big, fat, ugly boring textbooks, it's the phenomenal textbooks that had no existed until now!
Before reading this book, I had no idea about the 2012 Doomsday rumor, I only knew that it the Mayan Calender predicted the end of the world to be in 2012. Prophecy of Days easily explains it all with the bonus of trapdoors, hidden rooms, shady characters, a great setting (I ~heart~ Scotland and Ireland) and the hot boy involvement. I mean, Prophecy of Days is a book that was like, written for me! I love how there were wonderful Buddhist and Confucius text discreetly mixed in amongst all the excitement, it added a nice touch.
Don't laugh, but I took a bunch of notes because I'm a neat freak, and notes really help with understanding. I strongly suggest you a copy and write in it, or have a pad of sticky notes (and pencils) handy D
Beginning I wasn't sure I liked how Caity was talking to the reader using "you" a lot, in the first few pages, however, it soon went away later on. It was good to know the setting and time and all the need-to-knows at the beginning though D
Middle Stuffed with facts. Trapped me in with inky words!
End Dun-dun-dun-DUN! Betrayal, one of the best endings D
Characters Caity Mac Fireland is a good heroine, a daring, bold, take-action-immediatly type of heroine. I didn't think she was characterized enough on personality, talents etc... but the delicious plot made up for the loss of characterization.
Alex, our dreamy male character, sounds incredibly cute, but I was dissapointed on the lack of romantic involvement between him and Caity.
The other characters, besides Caity, Alex, and her friends, scared me, but I guess that's why I kept reading D
Conclusion Thick and rich with scientific, historical, mathematical, enriching writing, Prophecy of Days is a must read for everyone!
