Definitely a bridge book. A lot happens, but it feels as if nothing much happens because it's happens so fast. I felt like I lost some connection with the characters, again, I think because this book felt rushed to connect book two and the ending to all this in book 4.Also I'm left a little confused by the sudden disinterest the author has in Jude. In book one it seemed in the beginning that he'd be the alpha lover, most protective, etc of Paca... But he's almost completely pushed off the radar at this point in the story, and while he has the bond, he doesn't seem like he wants or has much connection with her now. The other three regularly get her attention and affection, and while the sex was extremely cut in this book, it was still there, but again, not with jude anywhere near.
Idk. I did enjoy this book, but it felt extremely rushed and confusing at points... And the authors alienation of Death kinda let me down. Hoping the next book doesn't feel nearly as rushed and gives some kind of balance to jude and paca (and the rest, I just feel like the bond between jude and her is severely strained and his disinterest in her is not being addressed nearly enough as it hoped)

Two Kingdoms The Dark Side Book 3 edition by Kristy Cunning Romance eBooks Reviews
Book 3 in The Dark Side series, this is NOT a standalone, so don't even attempt it if you haven't read books 1 & 2 first. Given that, this review contains spoilers for the previous books.
I can't count the number of times I've re-read the first two books while waiting for this one to come out, and I don't even want to know what it says about me that I love this author's twisted sense of humor so much. She never fails to crack me up no matter how many times I've read the book, or what style/pen name she's writing under (Kristy Cunning is the pen name author CM Owens is using for her Reverse Harem books), and this new story about Paca and her guys is no exception. BTW
Pro tip don't drink or eat while reading anything by CM Owens or any of her pen names.
In my defense, it was nasty, sticky hot, and it was only water, but, yeah, I forgot this golden rule. in case you're curious, while there's more than one spit take worthy moment, here's the actual line that inspired my warning "I need a handbook How to Sync Mensies with Your Harem."
I will say that if you go into this expecting a lot of RH bedroom scenes, you're going to be disappointed. Two Kingdoms is more about filling in the gaps to set up book 4 as Paca learns about how and why her original self was killed, and some wonderful one-on-one moments between Paca and one of her guys. This author is an expert at evoking emotions, not just laughs, and there were times I was hurting so much for the characters I was moved to tears (that bonus scene at the end just about killed me).
Personally, I loved every hilariously funny, twisted or touching moment of it, and the only reason it wasn't a one-sitting read for me was that real life kept butting its ugly, unwanted nose in my business. Off to start a binge read of the three current books while I wait for the fourth and final book to come out, which I think/hope will be released shortly. 5+ stars
I REALLY expected/wanted to love Two Kingdoms like I did with the first 2 in the series, but it just didn't grab me on this occasion.
After the second book, going into this one I thought Paca's guys would maybe show her some more love, but at times they still APPEARED to treat her with what amounted to me as indifference. And Yeah - I did think there would be more hot scenes between them as a group, maybe in the next book??
Plot wise I still enjoyed the read, but it just felt a little slower at times. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book, I'm curious as to what's going to happen next.
This one is good too but there are lots of times that I stopped reading. I did finish it though but I'm not that excited for the next book. I got easily annoyed with the FMC's inner monologue (sometimes I can almost hear her whiny and bratty voice) but some of it are funny but I just wish there are more instances that were serious. I also got annoyed with the explanations of purities and impurities balances because some of it does not make sense and contradicting. This is a good read but not my favourite. I'm still contemplating of reading it till the end. Maybe not.
Oh my, I have been waiting for Two Kingdoms! I got plenty of answers in the previous book, Three Trials, but the author is very good at dancing around the real answers, and making her readers guess. But I have learned it's not so easy guessing correctly with this author..!
"-I really didn't expect so much hostility," I lie, peering at them with wide, innocent doe eyes. Yeah, it totally doesn't work. In romance books, the girl gets away with everything while the guys dote on her and affectionately stroke her hair. So not fair. Fiction is starting to annoy me with all it's misleading inaccuracies."
Paca and her guys are trying to understand all the new (to them) information. While learning to work together, and trusting each other...okay, learning to trust Paca and Paca needs to learn how to work as a team...!
"I need a handbook How to Sync Mensies with Your Harem."
Again, who can they trust? Who did really kill them? What happened all those centuries ago?
How long can they keep up with the games?
"-...My soul is dark and twisted. What's your excuse?"
-Stina, A Woman & Her Books.
I'm shocked to leave such a low rating. I really like everything this author does, usually. This fell flat for me. Boring at times. Confusing a lot of the time. Took me days of on again off again reading to finally finish. Also, how is this a RH book?? Their's hardly any sex let alone enough sex a harem should be having. Paca is hardly even with the guys in this book at all. It seemed like the guys wanted nothing to do with her. I'm still going to read the 4th one but I'm hoping the series gets better again like the 1st and 2nd book.
Sorry C.M. I still think you're an amazing author. ❤
